This Year's Model Updates:

Hyundai shuffles the Sonata's trim levels for the second year in a row, making the four-cylinder engine standard on all and the V6 optional across the board. The sporty Sonata SE gains performance tires, a rear spoiler and a power driver seat, while the upscale Limited receives an Infinity stereo as standard.

Pros:
  • Comfortable ride, quality interior materials, roomy backseat and trunk, standard stability control, lengthy warranty, impressive value.
Cons:
  • Subpar fuel economy with the V6, numb-feeling steering, automatic transmission fussy in manual mode.

  • Great except for 1 rattle - 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Got my 08 GL (Canadian model) manual transmission in late June. Car has been great so far except for a rear parcel shelf rattle that I cant get rid of. It is comfortable, smooth riding, roomy and peppy with the manual. The engine is very easy to stall with the manual though. Mileage is also good. Wind noise is fairly noticeable even at normal speeds. Big car feel for a very good price. Overall, I bought a drab but well equipped and competent intermediate for the price of a compact with a good waranty to boot in case of issues.

I got this car about a month a go and I like, is a lot of fun to drive, the 6 cylinder engine has plenty of power, I got the limited so is loaded, I paid $20,299.00 for it including a $3k rebate. For the money you cant buy a better car new. Im getting 21 mpg but Im driving it like I stole it. I always had v8s so getting 20 mpg is big for me, the only complaint I have is that the glove box rattles when I drive on bumpy roads.

The car has a drone around 38-43 mph. It is very annoying since most of my driving seems to be near that speed. A friends 07 impressed me. I was told there were no changes to the 08. NOT TRUE- he didnt have this problem. I was told it is a torque converter clutch chuggle (what?) and it would need a software change to fix it. I called corporate in Oct. and still no promised call back. The heat/AC mode is dangerous since you have to keep looking down to see what mode its in.

  • Half year follow-up since purchase 1/31 - 2008 Hyundai Sonata

I wrote my original review 2/09/08. 34yr old buyer. After 5 mos. of ownership Im still very happy w/ my purchase. I have the dark cherry red with color matched door handles, blk leather interior. Sharp looks, rides beautifully. It is roomy; 4 adults and a car seat with room to spare. Huge trunk. Great mileage. Good power. My only regret is not getting the V6 (NOTE:the 4 cyl is NO SLOUCH!) I got my loaded 2008 Ltd off the showroom floor for $18.5K plus tax/title. I do like the new 2009 interior more + the improved HP and 1 mpg better for the 2009. Were I not so picky, there would be scarcely a chance to criticize or compare my 2008. No buyers remorse on day 1.Still happy after 5 months.
