This Year's Model Updates:

For 2007, Hyundai has shuffled the Sonata's trim levels. GLS replaces the previous GL moniker and Limited takes the place of LX. Hyundai has also introduced a new sporty SE trim. Later in the model year, a tire-pressure monitor and XM radio become standard across the line.

Pros:
  • Upscale look and feel, refined performance with V6, smooth ride, roomy cabin, standard stability control, attractive value and warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Steering somewhat vague, automatic transmissions are fussy in manual-shift mode, heated seats on the weak side.

  • Tin Can Feel - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

This car has been reliable, but it has one of the noisiest suspensions I have ever encountered. Each bump in the road is met with a crash and a bang. Edmunds high rating for this can only be explained by an obsession with foreign cars.... Disappointing fuel economy. I thought Korean cars were fuel efficient!

  • Not Good - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

I bought the Sonata back in August of 2006 brand new and since then it has had many problems. Both sun visors have had to be fixed, alarm had to be fixed, it needs new tires, an oxygen sensor is starting to go bad, and the trim is starting to come off. The dealership doesnt want to work with you and everything you call about they say is not under warranty. In order to test the car to see which oxygen sensor is going bad they are going to charge me. I have never had this many problems with a car or a dealership. You would think that in this economy a company would want to keep customers but apparently not. I would not recommend this car to anybody and i will never buy another one.

  • Beware of Warranty! - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Owned 07 Sonata for 2 years - 24500 miles on it. My recent experiences suggest that there are issues with the Hyundai Quality and Warranty claims. I had to change my both rear brake pads, and also change one rotor, resurfaced other after just 24000 miles! Surprisingly front brakes that should take 70% of braking torque were perfectly fine. Dealership said that the pads and rotors are not covered under warranty and charged $350. I have never heard rotor or even pads needing replacement in 2 years - shows poor quality of parts. Hyundai Consumer affairs would not cover even when Dealer agreed that this was not normal wear and tear. Had to change Alternator just 2 months back! Dont count warranty!

  • Not a happy customer - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Well, it has been in the shop A BUNCH. They cant find the problem w/ the air bag light showing no one in the seat although they replaced the seat w/ a recall. They now say well we changed it we wont do nothing. Car has had one problem after another & now is out of warranty a lot of stuff is starting to go wrong. I am thinking of selling my car & will not consider a Hyundai to purchase. I feel the company has not tried to fix my car & that it is not reliable.

  • car is a lemon - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

My x sonata was a lemon garbage car! Engine knock, replaced all the struts, both sun visors, oxygen sensor, electronic stab control module went, head gasket. Car was a piece of junk, was afraid to take it on a trip. I kept it for 10 months and bought an American car. No more foreign! No Wonder they give you a 10 year 100,000 warranty you will use it every month!

  • Electrical problems??? - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

This car has had problems from the very beginning. A week after we bought it, my husband and I left the car parked in the garage while went on our annual week-long vacation. When we returned, I got in the car first thing Monday morning to go to work and it wouldn’t start at all. Completely dead. (We had not even made a single payment at this point and the odometer read 400 miles, most of which were accrued when the car was shipped up from South Carolina for us.) I called the dealership and the Sales Manager told me that someone else had called previously about the trunk popping open..

  • Rent one first - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

I dont like my new Sonata Limited Platinum - What a huge mistake! The main problem I have with the car is the outrageously over-sensative electronic throttle. After 3 weeks of driving it I have a horrible ache in my foot because Im always holding it in a wierd position up off the throttle. Im unable to rest my foot on the throttle at all, there is no swivel arm action either, the gas pedal is just a hunk of plastic. The vehicle is also VERY slow to upshift on full acceleration. Ive had to adjust my driving to allow for a second or two before the car actually takes off, however when it finally does decide to go it really gets up and goes! it is fast and safe, I will give it that.

  • I miss my Subaru! - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

I traded my 2002 Subaru in for this 2007 Sonata. I barely made 4 payments and now it sits. Was driving home with my children, thankfully I just got off the interstate when I lost complete power. With 4 snow banks along the roads I was lucky to get off the road. Bought a new battery, only for it to drain completely the next day. Bought an alternator, have been trying to replace for the past 4 days. This is the worse design I ever saw! Read on other blogs how Hyundais are noted for blown alternators because of valve gasket leaks shorting them out. Other Hyundais have been recalled but not the Sonata. I had to replace the alternator on my Subaru-took less than 15 minutes. As far a gas mileage I barely get 19 mpg city, 21 mpg highway. Very Poor. Dont know if I will ever get another. s

  • A mistake - 2007 Hyundai Sonata
    By -

While very excited about my initial purchase based upon reviews, it was only a week later that creaks, squeaks and clunks began to appear. After three trips to the dealer the problems only seem to be growing, and are the kind of problems I do not expect adequate resolution to be forthcoming despite very good involvment from corporate. I suggest staying with Honda or Toyota. They cost more for a reason.

  • good for first car out of college - 2007 Hyundai Sonata

I bought this car when it was 2 years old. It had 30,000 miles on it. when I use standard leather cleaner on it the brown comes off the leather. The paint job could be better. It rusts easily. I have had a stop lamp switch replaced twice on it. Both sun visor have busted and needed to be replaced. at 116,000 miles the crank shaft busted into 2 parts and needed to be replaced. This car goes through tires very quickly. The way the tires sit on the car makes them wear down. Overall not the best car to buy. I think this company makes low quality cars. I will try to go with a Ford or Toyota next time.
