This Year's Model Updates:

After receiving significant upgrades last year, the Sonata receives only minor changes this year. Among these are a battery-saver feature (in the event that any of lights are left on); illuminated window switches; a 12-volt power point in the trunk; and electronic, rather than cable-operated, releases for the trunk lid and fuel door. Additionally, Hyundai announced that it had misstated the horsepower ratings for all of the models in its lineup in previous years, so the Sonata's four-cylinder is now rated at 138 horsepower (down from 149) and its V6 is rated at 170 (down from 181), though the engines themselves are unchanged.

Pros:
  • Excellent warranty, stylish sheet metal, pleasant highway ride, lots of bang for your family-sedan buck.
Cons:
  • Noisy four-cylinder engine, some cheap interior bits.

  • Quite a change for hyundai - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai has never really been up to par with the likes of Honda and Toyota until 02. The newly redesigned Sonota is almost perfect. One of the smoothest rides out there, it feels more solid than the accord and has more pickup then the camry. The price is not bad either. I would recommend this car anyday of the week. Its roomy, sporty, and I love the shiftronic sport shifting. A very well made automobile at a very good price.

  • I love my 2003 Sonata! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

I just graduated from college and was thrilled to be purchasing a new car (I drove a 1988 Celica with 200,000 miles on it thoughout college). A friend bought a Sonata just before we graudated, I fell in love with it, it reminded me of a Jag or Mercedes. I was certain that it would be out of my price range, I was shocked on how affordable it was! I purchased a 2003 black 5-speed with standard features for around $15,000(I prefer to drive a manual, its just more fun). My Mom and Dad saw it and thought it was a Mercedes and my husband (hes a mechanic)loves the warranty and loves to drive it too. The standard features are great for the price!

It drives like a dream, smooth & Quiet very low road noise (I can actually hear the radio when traveling on the highway, something that I could not do with my Honda Accord. Adequate horsepower( 6 cylinder) whereas my Honda was severely underpowered.

We purchased the car after many weekends shopping other dealers like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan and opted for the Hyundai. Not only is it a great looking car with many options that the others dont offer on the base models it is less expensive. The warranty is great! Unfortunately at the rate I drive I should have over 100K miles on it by the 5th year. Which means the extra 5 years on the 10 year warranty will be wasted. This is an awesome buy if you only drive 10K miles a year. We got the V6 model and it has a lot of get up and go with little noise. We have traded in a Mercedes C230 Kompressor and I do not regret it in the least.

We love our 2002 Sonata LX. It would be hard to find a bette buy for the money. After a year we have no complaints.

  • Phenomenal bang for the buck! - 2003 Hyundai Sonata

The Sonata is truly a steal at under $20,000. The leather in the LX is supple, the faux-wood trim looks anything but fake and the automatic climate control with air (I believe polen) filter is a nice feature for lazy drivers such as myself. The car rides smooth and feels solid with just the slightest understeer at higher speeds. The child safety features are wonderful. They made putting my dughters car seat in a breeze!

People have asked me what type of vehicle I have...and are surprised to find out its a Hyundai. Some have thought it to be a Jaguar or a Mercedes by its looks. When they have traveled in it, they state how nice it is.

I absolutely LOVE everything about this car! Its comfortable, classy and best of all affordable! I like the way the all controls are within easy reach for the driver. The trunk is very roomy, deep and it opens much wider than most cars. The safety features (including front and side airbags) is an added feature. The best thing of all is the wonderful warranty you get with the Hyundai. Why would you buy anything else?

I love my Sonata. Id buy Hyundais for the rest of my life now. It looks great and feels great. Ive put more miles on my car then usual in the last 6 months (almost 15,000) but it still runs great. I have a little spot on my trunk where there is rust. But thats covered in the warrenty so I dont have to worry about that. I checked out the Camrey and Altima and the Hyundai had more this standard for less money.
