Model Overview:

Sold from 2003-'11, the Honda Element compact crossover SUV remains one of the most distinctive and practical vehicles on the road. Happy Element owners are often city dwellers who appreciate both its small size and generous 75-cubic-foot maximum cargo capacity. Another notable element about the Element is the ability of its access-style rear doors to pivot backward a full 90 degrees, providing unimpeded access to the roomy and creatively configurable rear seats.

A used Element of any vintage is easy to recommend thanks to its functional interior, smooth four-cylinder engine and carlike handling, not to mention Honda's reputation for reliability. That said, it's worthwhile to focus your search on 2007 and newer models, as they offer a bit more power and enhanced safety features.

  • Best car purchase Ive ever made! - 2003 Honda Element
    By -

I got my element used in 2009 and it still drove off the lot like a new car. Its been noting less an absolute pleasure owning this vehicle. I moved and it would have been a nightmare if it werent for my element. It carries more than I could imagine. Its so spacious and really handles the road well. It also handles mountains well! My element handled a mountain camping trip like it was its job. I cant say enough about this car! I thought it was kind of ugly at first but after owning it for a few months, I love it so much it seems like the most beautiful looking car ever.

  • Best Vehicle I have ever owned - 2007 Honda Element

I have put 55,000 miles on this car and it has been a pleasure. The Element handles extremely well in snow and out-performed 4wd vehicles on a recent ski trip in the West Virginia mountains. I drove the ELement to Miami and back and found the seats to be very comfortable and the open cabin a definite plus. My only complaint is that I had to replace the tires at 30,000 miles. I put Michelin tires on and they have 25,000 miles on them with very little wear. The Element makes corrections in snow and ice that make driving in extreme conditions safe. On the beach the Element handled well, although I didnt push it and enter the soft sand. Overall, an outstanding utility vehicle!!!

  • Fantastic All Purpose Vehicle!!! - 2007 Honda Element

I have driven my Element in every condition imaginable over the last 3 years and love it. Very functional interior allows for many different activities. Hauling, camping, daily commute and more. I average 22 mpg in everyday driving. Factory tires are junk, replaced with Michelins, what a difference. I recommend installing the clear protective tape on the front end to protect from chips. I had Z- bart install for $450, covers hood, bumper and headlights and it has been worth the money. I love this car and would recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a fun to drive, dependable all purpose vehicle. I have a new baby and the clam shell doors are a challenge for my wife.

  • Beautifully Used - 2004 Honda Element

This is the 7th Honda I have owned. I was curious about the Element when they first came out and was glad to finally purchase a used one with a manual "yeah!" and 100k on it. Of course it has been flawless since I have owned it. So many possible ways to use this vehicle. As a competitive triathlete I am looking forward to this summer and using it for fun weekends. I am going to keep up on the maintenance and do a big service here in the spring (plugs, fluids, etc.). As long as I take care of it, the E should go another 100k for me easy. The skylight is way cool! Stereo is more than adequate and iPod friendly. I might even go camping with my son and sleep on the seats that make beds!

  • Typical Honda! - 2006 Honda Element

I got this car for my birthday in October, and I am loving it! I have wanted one since they came out, and I am happy for going with my intuition. I love Hondas in general. My aunt has a 1990 Honda Accord with over 300,000 miles on it, and it is still going strong, and drives like new. I did have to get used to the blind spots, but what car do you not have to get used to them in. I mean all cars have blind spots in different places... I have the stick, and I have not regretted it one bit. Some people dont like the suicide doors, but I love them. They just take a little getting used to, but we used to have a Saturn with one, so it is no biggie to me...

  • Love my E! - 2004 Honda Element

I love my Element. The ONLY thing I would change if I could is the gas mileage, which for my automatic transmission averages around 20 mpg in the city. But I wouldnt trade it for anything, and 20 mpg is better than my previous American sedans ever got!

  • Solid, uninspried alternative to SUVs - 2004 Honda Element

The looks arent for everyone, so be prepared to explain yourself. I think the consensus for why people buy the Element is universal, the combination of value, reliability, and versatility. The ride has no sporty intentions, so slow it down around turns. The 160 hp engine feels great, the Element never feels underpowered. Overall Im very happy with my Element. Here are some improvements that wouldnt fit below: 5) The gas tank holds 15.9 gallons, but the nanny fuel light comes on after using only 12 gallons. Abiding by the fuel light, youll be filling up after only 300 miles. 6) The recommended load capacity is something like only 680 lbs.

  • A return customer - 2010 Honda Element
    By -

I just traded in my 03 Element for a 2010. I was able to get mine with manual tranny! Thats important for me I just had to nag the salesman to beat on the computer network a bit. We found a dealer trade just 60 miles away. This car (like my old one) is the most practical car out there. In all the 102k miles I put on my old one, the only expense outside of scheduled maintenance was to replace battery and tires, and it never left me stranded. I use it almost like a truck and it serves me very well. Im happy in my element!
