This Year's Model Updates:

The big news this year is the return of the Civic Si. Featuring an exclusive two-door hatchback body style, the new Si has a 160-horsepower engine. All 2002 Honda Civic sedans and coupes feature a revised steering box for improved driving feel, added sound insulation and slightly tweaked suspension tuning. There are also some smattering of interior storage and comfort upgrades this year.

Pros:
  • Fuel efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

  • Practical, but no more - 2002 Honda Civic

This car is quite practical, but has had a decent number of repairs. It gets good fuel economy (upper 20s) and is a sound car. However, if you are looking for a quick car, youve come to the wrong place.

  • Civic EX-fun - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I find the Honda Civic EX to be well- made, with only minor electrical problems so far--a burned-out electric window switch. The pickup is fairly decent, although the handling isnt awfully forgiving of emergency maneuvers. Overall a fun drive.

  • CAN I HAVE MY MONEY BACK - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

FIT AND FINISH IS TOP NOTCH, BUT QUALITY OF MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION IS POOR. MANY THINGS HAVE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE WITHIN THE FIRST 24K. DEALERS WOULD NOT REPAIR AND IT TOOK A LAWSUIT TO GET HONDA TO FIX A ROCKING SEAT THAT HAD BEEN REPAIRED 3 TIMES PRIOR, A DEFECTIVE STEERING RACK AND FRONT STRUTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE CLOTH CAME OFF ALL 4 DOOR PANELS, THE TRUNK LOCK BROKE, THE AC DOES NOT WORK WELL, THE COMPUTER NEEDED REPROGRAMMING DUE TO EPA FAILURE, THE RADIO CHANGES STATIONS WHEN YOU OPEN THE SUN ROOF, THE CARPET CAME OUT OF THE FLOOR MATS AND THE LIST GOES ON.

  • 22,000 Mile update - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Ive put 22,000 miles since my last review. I Love this car. It has great pep, Im averaging 34 mil/gal. I just survived the winter with 4 Blizzaks (snow tires) without slipping once (even through 2-3 feet of snow). I agree that the insulation (noise) needs to be a little better, but otherwise, this is a great car.

  • Still lovin every minute - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Well Ive had my SI for about 2 years now and I still love every minute while im in it. You just cant beat the interior or build quality in this price range. It has excellent pick up through all the gears and gets really good gas mileage. I lowered my right after I bought it and it completely changed the look of the car. I get compliments anyehere I drive it. On long trips the seats are very comfortable and supportive in the tight turns. Plenty of storage in the hatch and all the little storage compartments in the interior. A++++

  • Good Purchase for Basic Trans - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Wanted a low-cost, well-built, high reliable vehicle - 2001 Honda Civic. Been happy with my purchase. Though Ive read about some 1st-Year Model problems...Ive been fortunate not to have any. In fact...at every dealership maintenance service, I make sure all vehicle problems are addressed. Great fuel economy...and Honda reliability so far at almost 25,000 miles.

  • I bought a piece of trash - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Evidently I was fooled by the claim that Japanese cars are reliable. I bought this piece of junk last month and have had nothing but problems with it. When I pulled out of the dealership, the car died. They dragged it into the repair shop and told me the next day that the fuel line was clogged. I figured that it was a fluke and drove off. Before I got home, the thing stalled again. This time, I found out that an engine module had malfunctioned. I have had it for two weeks since and have had two pieces of trim come loose and fall off somewhere on the highway. Needless to say, I would warn all against buying a Honda, especially the Civic.

  • Qualtiy concerns - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Great gas mileage (40 mpg highway) and fairly decent drivability are the only good thing about this car. Had nothing but problems. Was in shop 5 times after only 4 months driving. Had to replace front and rear shocks, remove dash and insert foam to eliminate extensive rattling (still rattles). The whole bloody car rattles. Gear shifter pops out of gear, brakes make horrible metallic pop when first used, clutch and brake pedal squeak like rusty door hinges, etc, etc. Serious quality control issues.

  • Biggest piece of crap I have owned - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

I really like the car minus all of the things that have malfunctioned with it. The fuel sending unit was replaced a month after purchase. The left front damper, left front stabilizer link and the right front strut assembly have been replaced. The AC compressor went out about 34 thousand miles, the alternator went out at around 41 thousand miles.

  • Unhappy Honda Owner - 2002 Honda Civic
    By -

Bought this car with dealer added options paying 5,000 over sticker. Bad decision! Not only does this Civic NOT have the comfort as my old 2000 Civic, it has depreciated faster. The same dealer will only give me 10,5000 for a car that list for 17k new, not to mention the add ons they dont give credit for, where the sticker on the old Civic was also 17k and two years later was worth 11,500.00 trade in and 13.5k-14.5k retail. 2002 Civic is uncomfortable for long rides, feel every bump in the road, doesnt feel as tight driving as the old Civic model, just has not been a good experience other than good gas mileage and Hondas usual mechanical reliability.
