The big news this year is the return of the Civic Si. Featuring an exclusive two-door hatchback body style, the new Si has a 160-horsepower engine. All 2002 Honda Civic sedans and coupes feature a revised steering box for improved driving feel, added sound insulation and slightly tweaked suspension tuning. There are also some smattering of interior storage and comfort upgrades this year.

Pros:
  • Fuel efficient and environmentally friendly engines, roomy interior, reputation for durability, impressive crash-test scores.
Cons:
  • Antilock brakes not available on DX or LX.

I have about 4500 miles on this car. I have had, in the past, several VWs (sedans and busses. Saabs (two cycle) BMW 1600, Porsche 1600 Super; Citroen DS 21, NSU Prinz, and others. This car with the VTEC enging is very interesting. It comes on like it has a supercharger. Most impressive when you tramp on the accellerator.

Well I bought this car a year ago used with 43k miles, it now has 57k miles and still runs and drives great. Still getting really good gas mileage and not too many squeeks or rattles. Really love the seats and shifter. Factory radio sounded good but I replaced the speakers and now it sounds great. My car was lowered when i bought it, it handles really well especially around high speed corners. Not really in anyone elses review but the headlights really put out a lot of light at night, almost as much as the expensive hid systems.

After hearing how great Honda cars were, I decided to try one and have leased a Civic for 3 years. With my lease winding down, here are my thoughts: The engine is flawless, if I was a heavy commuter I would love the reliability and gas mileage. Though the engine HP isnt the greatest, nor is the car the most comfortable so its not like I would love to spend an hour in it each way without more power/comfort. It is very agile & would be great for city living with street parking. Problems that I have were more "annoyances" such as 1. Radio compartment door broke, 2. Airbag sticker fell off, 3. Plastic trim around both rear windows fell off, and as I got hit twice its bumpers are weak.

  • A keeper!! - 2002 Honda Civic

This Civic is my fourth Honda. Ive driven them since I was 16 years old. I feel that the build quality has slipped a little, my Civic seems to rattle quite a bit over rough surfaces and I only have 33k on it. That is my only complaint about it. Its fun to drive, has good pep for 127HP, a smooth shifting 5-speed, and I like the way it looks. It also gets great gas mileage, and I drive it hard.(34+ MPG) Overall, you wont be disappointed. I work for its biggest competitor and continue to buy Honda products. GO HONDA!!

Leased car due to special promotional deal...have driven it from KS to Los Angeles 2 times now and was impressed with the mileage, comfort and trip performance on all types of driving conditions and roads, mountains, etc..great car..no problems at all in the 3 yrs weve had it...ride is a little stiff, but thats just a Honda..the residual value is so cheap, we are purchasing it outright when the lease expires next month!! Great car.

  • My Civic makes me happy - 2002 Honda Civic

A good car, no doubt. I did my research before buying and paid off. Except for one time when the car sort of fluked (I think it was Minnesotas harsh cold winter and snow), it runs smoothly as the day it was new. One thing Im not sure about: I feel I dont get the mileage that other Civic drivers get. Winter mi/gal runs at about 25, and in the Spring/Summer is on the 32-36 range. Still, Im planning on getting another Civic when I change this.

  • Great, sporty economy car - 2002 Honda Civic

THe honda civic ex, when mated to a stick shift, is actually a surprisingly sporty car. the engine is quite peppy and the vtec growl pleases every time. 0-60mph comes in roughly 8 seconds, which is quite good for its class. sure, its no racer, but thats because the fuel mileage and the comfort of the car is also far superior than others in its class. also, one cant go wrong with honda reliabilty and resale values. Thumbs up for the civic.

  • Certainly a Honda - 2002 Honda Civic

Another in a long line of reliable Hondas. Cant be the low cost of ownership. Get your oil changes and no problems. Only problem is a drivers side window quirk. Cold wet weather and it requires some help closing.

  • update - 2002 Honda Civic

Well, I posted a review back in May of 2002. To update, the car STILL has not had any problems. Yes, the road noise is still there, and the rattles and creaks are there. But reliabilty and gas milleage has been very good. On all highway, I have gotten anywhere from 39- 41MPG. But back in the city, its been hovering around 33MPG. Over this time, I have gone on numerous trips, and drive everywhere and I still enjoy driving it!
