This Year's Model Updates:

Ford's popular compact pickup receives a number of minor changes for 2003. The 2002 Tremor package, with its ear-splitting 485-watt sound system, returns for 2003 as a trim level, joining XL, Edge and XLT in the lineup. A chrome appearance package for select XLT models is available, and last year's FX4 package for four-wheel-drive Rangers is offered in two guises: Off Road and Level II. New Sonic Blue paint is unique to FX4 Level II Rangers. Other changes to the 2003 Ford Ranger include covered visor vanity mirrors for XLT models, standard step bars on XLT 4WD SuperCab and Edge 4WD models and minor interior trim and fabric revisions on some models. Finally, crew cab rear seats get LATCH anchors, and some new colors are available.

Pros:
  • Strong 4.0-liter V6 engine, handsome styling, variety of trim levels, functional interior.
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable cabin, dated design, no V8 is available, no crew cab configuration.

I needed more interior space so purchased the Ranger extended cab. The 3.0 L V6 has plenty of power. Auto transmission shifts smoothly. Im surprised at 2,400 RPM when cruising @ 65 MPH on the highway. Thought it would be closer to 2,000. Wish seat could fold fwd. enough to access behind seat space without having whole seat slide fwd. Should be a good truck overall. I do miss my F-150.

4.0L, 5-spd. Auto. Trans, A/C, 4WD. Coming off 2 excellent Toyota trucks, the Ford is WAY more truck for the money. Build quality is equal to that of Toyota and performance, ride, and ruggedness surpasses Toyota. Long-term quality is the only question, but Consumer Reports rates the Ranger equal to the Tacoma. Love this truck. Price, performance, quality, ride - everything. Did switch truck over to synthetic fluids @750 miles (Amsoil).

First small pickup I have ever owned. Good performance on the highway and on twisty mountain roads. Have not taken it off-road. Mine is a 5-speed manual. Good shifting, smooth clutch and excellent take-off with the 4.10 rear end. Actually could use a better fifth gear ratio. 5th is a little too close to 4th for long highway driving.

This is my 2nd Ranger. I traded in a 1994 with 170,000 miles on it and it was still running strong. I like the 2003 overall. It rides a little rough on bumpy pavement as trucks do. I really like the rear doors. The gas mileage is 22mpg with a 3.55 Limited Slip Differential. Ive had it for three weeks and 2700 miles and so far so good.

  • BEST DEAL 4 THE$$$$ - 2003 Ford Ranger

A great basic truck with so much more. I needed a truck for light hauling, after looking at the compition it was a no brainer. The xlt ranger with 4 wheel abs (ebd), cd player, ac, center consol with 3 cupholders, mats, chrome wheels, and much much more, cost around 10900. The 5 speed is responsive and the 15 inch tires look great. If you need a truck see me at curry ford I buy and drive what I sell.

Im not really a truck person, but I needed a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get me in and out of my driveway (etc.) during the winter months, and the Ranger was the most affordable thing I could find.
