Overview & Reviews
The new model year ushers in some significant changes for the 2005 Ford Focus. Exteriors have been updated with revised fascias and trim, and the car's oddball interior design has been replaced by more sedate and sophisticated furnishings. Last year's diverse engine lineup has been scrapped in favor of an all-new PZEV-rated 2.0-liter power plant good for 136 horsepower. A performance-oriented ST sedan has been added to take the place of the discontinued SVT Focus hatchbacks; it features a 151-hp incarnation of last year's excellent 2.3-liter PZEV engine. The 2.3-liter loses its squeaky-clean PZEV rating, however. In other news, the typically confusing array of trim levels and packages has been organized into logical and consistent trim lines, standardized across all body styles. New audio systems, increased interior storage and tweaked suspension tuning round out this year's midcycle makeover.
- Spacious and comfortable interior, fun-to-drive character, sharp steering, smooth ride, impressive selection of body configurations and features.

This is a great car - 2005 Ford Focus
By Sjacka - October 4 - 10:00 amI drove the Mazda 3 S with sport suspension first. Loved it and was sold on it until I drove the Focus ZX4 ST. There is no comparison -- The ST is far superior and significantly cheaper in the end.

I wish I had bought one too! - 2005 Ford Focus
By mboulis - June 25 - 3:51 pmMy husband has been a diehard Ford Escort fan for years. He drives 135 miles to work each day and his 1997 Escort (288,000 miles) finally started to give out. He had been extremely reluctant to get a Focus but decided to test drive two of them on the way home from work. He was completely impressed with this car! He bought the ZX4 ST right then and there and drove it home. The handling is smooth, steering is tight and the shifting is close geared and smooth. We cannot say enough good things about this car. The car is a lot of fun to drive! Personally, if I had known what driving a Focus ZX4 ST would be like, Id have bought one of these instead of the Grand Am GT I bought!

1 year of good time - 2005 Ford Focus
By Alex - June 20 - 3:50 pmI bought this car brand new for $12000 ,3 door hatch, SE with sport package (fog lights, leather steering wheel, aluminum wheels, arm rest). I wanted to buy quick, so I took the best hatch they had that time. Unfortunately my car doesnt have tilt wheel and cruise control. I survive without both but still want them. The only thing which calms me down - Focus steering wheel tilt isnt enough anyway. Oh yes, and the cruise control could be dangerous.:) I had one problem over the year - my car started to move while in Park. It was fixed under the warranty but took 2 weeks to complete. I had a loaner for these 2 weeks. I made several long trips in any weather conditions. Noise level is low, seats are ok, power is adequate.

Focus Saleen - 2005 Ford Focus
By Scott - May 28 - 7:24 pmThis car is so much fun.I am getting decent mileage but had hoped for better. The interior is tops and the exterior gets looks everywhere I go. Bigger drink holders would have been nice but may have lost some of the look. This thing hugs the road and acceleration is amazing.

Ford Focus ZX SE - 2005 Ford Focus
By Ford Focus ZX SE - May 27 - 12:36 pmWe traded in our F150 which we loved because of the gas prices going up. And not only does it get great gas mileage in stop and go traffic of 27 mpg or more - freeway driving we get 35mpg. It is so fun to drive and handles great. My daughter then bought this same car, same year . And she also loves it.

Great alternative to Jap Econ Cars - 2005 Ford Focus
By Nils L - May 23 - 10:00 amWhen I purchased this car, I was coming from a foreign economy car, and I was impressed right away at how solid this car felt, and how quiet the ride was. I was impressed on the handling of the car, the only complaint I really would have is that the base 2.0L engine could have a little bit more zip to it, but its still a very fun car to drive.

I wasnt planning on buying this one.... - 2005 Ford Focus
By MJoJung - May 23 - 10:00 amI needed to replace my Taurus wagon, which went on life-support @ 14 years. Did a lot of research into minivans-- hadnt even heard of the Focus--but search engines kept referring me to the Focus. Drove it, liked it, liked the price & bought it. One month later like it even more--sensible design, handles well, but the biggest surprise is how much interior room it has--from inside it feels like a small SUV (except Im getting 30/gal on the highway). For a stationwagon it accelerates smartly. Im very happy with it.

Love to drive - 2005 Ford Focus
By Janice - April 18 - 5:25 pmI had a Ford Explorer and with the gas prices going up I wanted something that was better on gas and also something smaller. At first I was not sure about the leg room in the back for 2 teenage girls but turns out it has plenty of room for them. I love the way it handles. I love to drive it. My girls are learning how to drive and we disagree on who gets to drive.

Begs to be Driven! - 2005 Ford Focus
By DGoggans - April 16 - 11:54 pmI commute 102 miles daily, and I need a car that makes those 2.5 hours bearable. The Focus makes the drive a pleasure. Im on Interstate 75, and my Focus runs with the big boys without breaking a sweat. Outstanding on all counts. Feels like a much bigger car with a MUCH bigger engine. This is my first Ford. It wont be my last!
