  • Just what I expected - 2002 Chevrolet S-10

I havent had the problems other S-10 owners claim to have had. Other than a leaky valve cover gasket and a warped brake rotor ( both repaired under warranty, even though my warranty was expired when I had the leaking gasket) Ive had no problems. I like the trucks gas mileage, as I average about 26 MPG. Overall Im happy with my truck. It is exactly what I expected.

The 1st 3 years of ownership I was lucky to have a warranty. Replacements included battery, serpentine belt, alternator, shock and more. There has been a nagging rattle in the dash. It has been to the dealership 4 times with the dash taken out, and they still cannot find it. All in all it has been the service that keeps me hanging in with this vehicle. It is a nice truck and I get a lot of use out of it. Not only that, it is bright red with black sport trim package and is awesome to look at.

Leased this vehicle for 4 years- bad news! GM LeaseCo is a situation to be avoided at all costs. Just try to get out of your lease- I dare you! Truck always started and ran well. Problems with suspension (truck developed a lean to one side, then the other), battery replaced under warranty, 4X4 system worked well most of the time, but if you change tires, you must change all 4 together, otherwise difference in tire circumference will bind up transfer case. Tires from dealer were the worst Ive ever had. Truck tough looks, but only 4 ply rated. Had flat tires more than 4 times after travelling on roads which others travelled unscathed. End of lease- good bye! Engine too thirsty for me.

This is my 3rd S-series truck from GM. I owned an 87 S-10 and 89 S-15. Both were excellent vehicles. This one continues the trend towards quality that I have always had with GM. My current truck has only been back to the shop 2 times (once for an oil change and once for body work after it was rearended)

  • Xtreme-ly good, so far! - 2002 Chevrolet S-10

This truck has the Xtreme package along with the 4.3 V-6 and 5spd. tranny. Truck has all the goodies too: A/C, tilt/cruise, PW/PL AM-FM/CD player. Standard cab doesnt have much room for anything other than the two passengers. Handles extremely well due to factory installed lowered suspension. Engine is better than average but not a speed demon. Shifts smooth, brakes well, ride is good despite the sport suspension. Fit/finish is very good and cab exhibits no rattles at just 12000 miles (bought used as a repo!) If you want to carry stuff inside, youll need the extended cab version.

Great all-around truck! Best suspension pkg on compact truck market. Takes eveything that I give & asks for more. Great for beach fishing and ski trips plus occasional abuse. No minor mechanical issues. Nice inter. style & accessories.

We have gotten about 17.0 mpg in general driving and 22.0 on a trip. It appears to lack power on hills. My wife calls it a girls truck. Its her truck.

The best little truck Ive ever owned. No major problems. Wish it had more hp for a 4 cyl. Lots of fun to drive.

  • Why buy this truck? - 2002 Chevrolet S-10

After reading several sources, and actually driving several trucks, I chose the Chevrolet. Dodge Dakota was even worse on gas, and the Toyota was higher priced when similarly equipped. Being over 6 tall and needing to have some storage room in the cab, for save keeping travel bags, place for dog to ride when weather bad, and sometimes needing room for 4 people, this was the best truck.
