Overview & Reviews
The 2009 Chevrolet Malibu undergoes a number of key changes. The six-speed automatic becomes more widely available with the four-cylinder engine, and the four is now standard instead of the V6 on the top-level LTZ trim. Bluetooth connectivity also debuts as an option, while stability control becomes standard across the lineup. Power-adjustable pedals are no longer offered.
- Strong performance from V6, excellent ride and handling balance, roomy cabin, comfortable seats, high crash test scores, solid fit and finish.
- Some subpar cabin materials, no rear center armrest, fussy manual-shift feature, a few key luxury features are unavailable.

Better than expected fuel economy - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Bill - December 3 - 2:00 amI have been pleasantly surprised at the fuel economy and pep. I drive primarily country roads and I am averaging 28.7 mpg. I was apprehensive about buying a four cyl., but the six speed trans really gives it great performance; it feels very peppy and is really fun to drive. Unbelievably quiet ride for a car in this price range.

Love my Malibu - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By afs1234 - October 7 - 1:46 amI switched to Japanese imports because of the poor experiences Ive had with US car models. After reading the JD Power review on the new Malibu, and test driving every import model in this class, (Accord, Camry, Altima, Mazda6), I decided to take a chance again on a Chevy. The car is great! I love the quiet, smooth ride. The interior is well designed and very comfortable. And I was able to buy the features I wanted without having to upgrade to expensive features I didnt want. I also spoke to someone who use to work with GM and found out GM put a lot of work into making the Malibu a top quality car, which sold me on the concept that this car would last as long as the Asian imports.

Best Family Sedan Value - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Lee - August 28 - 2:13 amI cant believe how nice this car is for the money- smooth, quiet, beautiful, great mileage. Ive had Camrys Accords C- class MBs that were all great but this GM product is as good if not better than any for overall value and quality.

Excellent Car - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Lauren - July 23 - 8:53 pmI have owned my Malibu for about two months now.I had wanted one for awhile and we got a good deal on it. It feels like a luxury car for a reasonable price. It has a lot of great features and I havent had any problems. Ive always had GM vehicles and I have never had a reliability problem. This includes an Oldsmobile with 240k miles on it. It has a good amount of pick up (in the v6). In summary this is a great sporty car with a good amount of space in it. It is good for someone with or without children.

Great Car - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By KMH - June 12 - 11:16 amI am not a buy American for the sake of it being American consumer. This car is extremely smooth, has great pick up, and is a great car. I have owned 2 Camrys and this car is every bit as good if not better than those cars.

Pleasantly Surprised - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Very Satisfied - June 5 - 7:16 pmLooked at Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, and Volkswagen Passat. For the money, this was the best car. More than adequate power for a 4 cyl., extremely quiet at highway speeds, and a very smooth, comfortable ride. Suspension not too hard or soft, just right. Plenty of technology and luxury like comforts in the car (Bluetooth, OnStar, heated seats). First road trip was over 600 miles, averaged about 30-32 mpg, but I tend to drive a little fast. Car was at 80 mph, tachometer wasnt even at 2500. Putting a 6 speed trans in this car was the smartest thing GM ever did. Oh, did I mention, car is just beautiful to look at. This is my first American purchase, and I am extremely impressed.

Outstanding Buy - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By hunt0694 - February 9 - 9:16 amAnyone who believes that GM cant build a quality, fun-to-drive car at a resonable price should try the new Malibu. Ive had a lot of cars but nothing this good for the money. I had no intention of getting a Malibu until I test drove it (I was set to buy a Camry.) The Chevy won in ride and performance, and interior styling was way better than the Toyota. And the deal being offered made it thousand less. I know everyone talks about how the Camry delivers more on resale, but youre paying way too much up front. And the Malibu is way more fun to drive. If youre on the fence about buying a mid-size car, do yourself a favor an drive the Malibu.

Excellent value - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Joe - October 7 - 12:06 pmI downgraded to this car from a big luxury car, thinking it was time for something more economical and greener. Im very happy, the car has all of the features as my other car and more, it drives very smoothly and handles very good. Im amazed with the fuel economy, I havent average less than 27 mpg, of course I drive mostly highway miles. A part from being smaller than my trade, its very comfortable inside with supportive seats and plenty of room for a car this size, the back seat is comfortable enough, assuming the front seats are not all the way back. So I can safely say I dont miss my old car, I do occasionally miss the power, but thats the compromise you have to make.

Superior Ride comfort but overlooked by - 2009 Chevrolet Malibu
By Bill - August 7 - 6:46 pmThe Malibu LTZ is unbelievable ride and comfort. It appears to be overlooked by most. I can compare this to previous cars that Ive had in the past and this is simply one of the best and perhaps the best car that we have owned. Ive owned Honda Accord, Prelude, Cadillac SRX and others. It has luxury, style, power, high fuel efficiency, it handles well, on and on. I would clearly purchase this over most of my other cars and would be hard pressed to select any other car. I highly recommend this car to anyone
