This Year's Model Updates:

The Cobalt is a replacement for the aged Cavalier and like its predecessor it's available in both coupe and sedan body styles.

Pros:
  • Smooth ride and sporty handling, torquey four-cylinder engine, premium content for basic-car price.
Cons:
  • A few cheap plastic interior parts, odd exterior styling details.

  • Great Small Car - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

I recently purchased this car, upgrading from the 2000 Chevy Metro LSi (1.8L 4-cyl). I opted for the manual transmission with this car, instead of the automatic. Great car for the money! The car is much more responsive when you hit the gas, with no hesitation. The power seems like it would be for a much larger car. Fuel economy is fantastic! With most of my driving on the highway, I am getting around 35-36 mpg. The info display is a novelty, but useful. Only design negative I find is the headrest design. It feels like your head is being pushed forward, and is uncomfortable. Overall, a very good car.

  • Good first model, needs some tweaking - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

I didnt know much about the Cobalt before looking at it, but I read up on reviews and such. Basically it sounded like a reliable car because its an updated version of the Cavalier, so it didnt seem like a gamble of a first model car since its an update on another model. Overall I really like the Cobalt LS coupe. Its reliable and seems like its going to last for a good amount of time. The design is nice but could use a little updating to compete better with foreign cars. Only general complaints are the bad blind spots due to small rear windows and poor interior lighting and the fairly cheap plastic interior.

  • Satisfied so far - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

So far owning my 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt LS has been nothing but a walk in the park. I have been a previous GM owner for many years now and this is by far the most impressive GM model that I have ever owned. I previously owned a 2000 Cavalier Z24 and my Cobalt puts it to shame! My Cobalt is loaded with fun features that werent even offered on most of the other cars that I was looking at in the same price range. The car is fun to drive, great on gas, and easy on the wallet too. The five speed manual transmission gives the car a sportier feel and I am very impressed with the perfomance of this cars four cylinder engine.

  • My daughters first car, Happy Sweet 16 - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt

My 16 year old daughters first car. She tells me its the best car she has tried out so far, its cool looking, stylish, and fits her well in terms of view to the road. (which to me is important as she has just received her license )

  • An Impressive Chevy...Finally - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

I purchased this car under a GM smartbuy...$2000 down and $65/month. I wanted something I could drive back and forth to work and get good gas mileage. But I got MUCH more. This car has NO options. But it comes with so much...A/C, CD player, tilt, rear defroster, auto on and off lights, etc. Im very pleased with the power and refinement of the 2.2 ecotech engine...its sneaky fast. The car is very composed and quiet on the road. It shifts effortlessly. If youre considering a small car, DRIVE this one....its an eye opener!

  • Nice economy car - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

I wanted to buy a small economy car that would be reliable and good for commuting and that was inexpensive. I paid $14,200 including sales tax for my Cobalt. You cant touch a Corolla or a Civic for that price. The Cobalt is reasonably peppy, turns well, brakes well and feels very solidly built. The clutch feel and shifter are excellent. The only beefs I have are the cup holders are right in front of the heating and A/C controls and the trunk lid is high so its a little hard to see when backing up.

  • A Disappointment - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

Ive had the car for six months and have put 5600 miles on it. I was quite pleased at first, but the quality of the car is now in decline: wind noise, rattles in dash and glove box, fuel gauge problem, occasional cruise control problems. I fear things will just get worse, and am now looking forward to the day I can trade the car in.

  • LS Coupe with Sport Package - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

Surprising attributes for a compact car from GM. Solid firm ride without any harshness. Quiet, quieter than my wifes Buick LeSabre. Resonable power for a car that gets 35 MPG on the highway. So far Im getting around 27.4 MPG driving around town. (according to the trip computer) Would like to have the S/C engine in this car but dont want the stiff suspension and sky-high spoiler.

  • A Few Problems - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

After having my Cobalt for a month, I noticed that the paint was peeling on the roof. I returned to the dealer and they indicated that it was some chemical problem with the paint. They had the spots painted for me. Upon getting it back there was a new spot so I had to return it again. I wasnt really happy with the spot painting because if it can happen on the roof whats to stop it from happening on the rest of the car. Also have a problem with the cloth coming up around the door handle which they did agree to fix as well. All in all, Ive been to the dealership 8 times and I have only owned the car 2 1/2 months. Im sad that my first experience with a new car had to be like this.

  • Cute - 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt
    By -

My driving experience with the Chevy Cobalt is that it does drive smooth and it has some speed. The brakes are good. All it takes is a tap on the brakes. The heating system is good. I burn less heat and oil. The windows fog up easily.
