Overview & Reviews
The North Face package is no longer offered, but an electronic stability control system is now available as part of the Z66 Premium On-Road Suspension package. Hydroboost brakes are now standard on all 1500 series Avalanches and the optional 8.1-liter V8 is now rated at 320 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.
- Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.
- Some cheap interior pieces, lifeless steering, limited drivetrain choices.

solid value - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By allycat - September 24 - 2:00 amUtility of a truck & seating of a SUV. Best thing they ever did was offer this truck without the body hardware. I wouldnt even consider this truck until they offered a "naked" version, it looks great. Overall the truck has a soft ride that could be more responsive, but it is better than the typical leaf spring rear end of a pickup. The interior is very roomy and comfortable, but as expected, the cabin has average materials that is typical of a GM product. I would have happily paid $500 more for this vehicle if they would have come up with better interior components (knobs, switches , door panels, etc). Overall I felt this was a good value for the money

I love my Avalanche - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Barbara Foster - August 14 - 10:00 amAs a female business owner, I found my personal car being messed up with work items. I like all the "bells & whistles" of a luxery car. Avalanche was the only logicial choice for me. Beautiful styling. It handles great & the convience of the covered bed is fantastic. Im really surprised how much I have used the bed and how easy it is to convert the back seat area to enlarge the bed size. Gas consumption is too high. I average approx. 13 mpg city. Im a short female & access is difficult. There is a running board, but needs a small step that pops out upon opening the front doors, access would be much easier for short or disabled people.

Pretty good truck - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By oitskev - August 9 - 2:00 amI like this truck. It fits me well. Im 64" and I have more than enough room. Not the fastest thing around or the greatest at slowing down. The Avalanche hauls enough for a little trip to the home supply store. Good turning radius for such a big truck. Nice and quiet going down the road. Drives straight with no drift on the highway. It does seem to be affected by high side winds. I havent driven a high profile vehicle in awhile so maybe its just me.

I wish I had my 1998 Tahoe back!!! - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By ihatechevy! - June 28 - 2:00 amJudging from everyone elses reviews, I got a lemon. The engine and exterior build are fine, but the interior is shoddy at best. Within 24 hours of leaving the dealership, trim pieces had begun to fall off! Now, 3 months later, I am still headed back from time to time to have the dealer replace trim clips. I have also resorted to using pieces of windshield wiper blades to wedge in the dash to stop squeasks and rattles. My 6 year-old Tahoe didnt have this much interior noise! I cant believe Im paying $500/month for this. For this price, I couldve had a nice, well built German car...

Great Truck for the money - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By bert gonnella - March 14 - 10:00 amThis is a true SUV. We use it as our family hauler. Back seat plenty big for kids. Use it as a pickup for bringing anything home fromthe local home depot We just got back from a vacation where we loaded the back end with anything that would fit and we towed a 22 foot boat and truck worked great. Great truck!

Chevrolet Has Really Improved - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By HMC - January 13 - 10:00 amI had many options to buy a truck but loved the overall style of the Avalanche. The ride is very smooth even with the z71 package. I really havent had to use the rear window bit yet but it looks simple enough. This is a big truck that takes some use to backing up etc. There are tons of options available on this truck and mine has all of them which really make this a $40,000 vehicle. I already have 7,000 miles and no major issues EXCEPT the a/c expansion value which is located on or very near the fire wall makes a lourd sound that is annoying. This shouldnt be in a $40,000 vehicle. Overall, very pleased with the vehicle.

2 for one - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By gKato - September 1 - 10:00 amTraded a 01 Tahoe Z-71 for the Avalanche. So far, I love the vehicle. More room and storage than my Tahoe, and rides better. We just packed for the weekend camp trip with a 5000lb tailer, 2 inflatables, cooking BBQ, fishing gear, bikes, tables, chairs, etc, and we still have room to spare!
