Hydroboost brakes are now standard on all 1500 series Avalanches and the optional 8.1-liter V8 is now rated at 320 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.
- Versatile and innovative cab configuration, strong V8 engines, substantial towing ability.

Most Versatile Suv Yet - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Covinaraider - April 3 - 2:00 amIve had this vehicle almost a year now and have been nothing but happy! The comfort, power, and versatility give it a package that my friends envy. It drives smoother than a tahoe, and has done everything that I have needed it to do. Yeah of course I wish it got better gas mileage (16 mpg overall), but which SUV/Truck owner doesnt.

Fall Apart with $1,332/89. owner pays. - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Fall Apart - November 22 - 10:00 amTotal mileage 37,011. Failure of bearings in the differential; Failure, bearing in rear axle on passenger side. Leak in same bearing. Oil lelaked onto emergency brakes. Cost me $1,332.89. 9. Designed to fail at 1,011 miles beyond warranty???? Dealer claiming no GM responsibilty. Results (2).. 1. I pay the bill. (2) Toyota has genuine, non mis-leading total quality throughout. Chev Avalanche taught me to avoid GM PRODUCTS. I AM PURCHASING A TOYOTA AVALON as soon as my Avalanche is available from its costly repairs. READER: Are you capable of learning from the above experience. Its only your money.

Pleased with my 04 Avalanche - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By sburk - October 30 - 12:20 pmI purchased my 04 used with 14,000 miles on it. I have been very pleased so far. My Avalanche does not have the body hardware and is very sharp looking. I am getting about 15 mpg during mostly country driving as high as 19 mpg on highway trips. The interior is extremely comfortable especially on long trips. The ride is solid and quiet. I enjoy the sunroof and Bose stereo. I wish I had leather, but the black sport cloth seats are very nice. The bed cover was somewhat faded when I purchased the vehicle, but after using a product called "Back to Black" it looks like new. This is the perfect truck for a family man. Tons of rear seat space even for adults and I love the midgate versatity.

Great vehicle for towing! - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By queenbee - July 21 - 2:00 amI love my truck! I tow about 7500 lbs of weight - horses & trailer regularily & it is just great. The gas mileage is bad - about 7 mpg when Im hauling hills & long distances, but its effortless & the tank is big. The cab is comfortable, stereo is great, lots of leg room, pretty good visability once you get used to the small back window. Small woman/big truck! Love it!

Nice Truck - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Steve - June 27 - 9:26 amThis is a nice, quite functional vehicle with lots of 1st class features. I did have trouble with the tailgate lock that took 3 or 4 trips to the dealer to get properly repaired.

Best Ride to tow a boat - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By Dana Breyer - June 2 - 2:00 amWaited for my 2500 Avalanche, one of the first to be delivered. Ordered on 9/9/2001. Received 11/2001. I have a 30 foot boat which weighs about 12500 lbs. This truck pulls better than the Ford diesel 3500. Gas mileage is ok. 10 mpg city and 15 on highway. Very few problems with the vehicle. Happy I bought it when I did. P.S. So far I have made $17.00 on the "CHANGE FOR A BUCK".

Best Personal Use Truck Yet - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By mjjust - March 1 - 10:19 pmThis has to be the best personal use truck on the market. 16 mpg city, 22 mpg on highway, tows my 7000 pound boat without trouble, rides great, and comes standard with removable bed cover, built in locking storage (which work great as an ice chest), bed mat, etc. No mechanical issues, warranty expired without ever needing service.

TLC - 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
By tlccribbs - December 4 - 12:43 pmI had a Tahoe before and I needed a truck for work but, I wanted the same amount of comfort and luxury that I had before. I was able to get the best of both worlds with this vehicle. The Avalanche is an outstanding vehicle for play and work.
