This Year's Model Updates:

Who woulda thought -- a Buick SUV? More accurately, the Rendezvous is one of a new breed of crossover vehicles that combines the look and utility of an SUV with the comfort of a touring car. The Rendezvous is based on the Pontiac Aztek, itself based on GM's minivan family consisting of the Chevrolet Venture, Pontiac Montana and Oldsmobile Silhouette.

Pros:
  • Available third-row seat that folds flush with the load floor, independent rear suspension, optional rear parking assist.
Cons:
  • Down on power compared to the competition, minimal off-road capability.

  • Fix me almost perfectly - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

I fell in love with the Rendevous when it was first introduced. I was so excited when my husband and I found a used 2002 CXL AWD with just over 11000 miles on it this last summer. We stole it off the lot, with the price we ended up paying for it. I do wish it had a bit more power when going up hills. The comfort and convenience is top of the line. I like the heads up display and AC auto features

  • Great comfort - hard on the pocketbook - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

Where do I begin - purchased this vehicle 7 months ago - in that time have replaced a head gasket, only to put a new engine in and ABS sensor board and brake line rusted (just replaced). Over $4000 on this vehicle already - practically new - wonderful to drive, comfort level way up there just to bad that it has cost me so much to keep running in such a short time.

Rdv is pretty cheap for its class. It can beat a mercedez. The name mercedez is only famous not the cars.I think rdv is top of its class.

  • Rendezvous NOT! - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

Bought the car as GM Certified, NOT. Serious mechanical problems from the get go. Years later, still having difficulties - car has turned off on the highway fuel gauge changes constantly turn on car and drive but then turn it off and it does NOT restart dangerous, dangerous vehicle.. Now we are stuck with it, who would purchase it from us? GM is NEVER, EVER helpful... No wonder they are losing billions. Should the company ever go bankrupt, just have them survey the car owners.

  • Rendezvous Has Mechanical Defects - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

I loved the vehicle, and still do with the exception of major problems occurring at 51,000 miles. Needed intake manifold gasket replaced as well as new head gaskets. $1,680. Then 2 days later found a crack in the A/C condenser. Condenser needed to be replaced. GM finally paid the cost of the condenser ($400+/-) and we paid the labor ($423). Even though other Rendezvous were having manifold gasket and head gasket problems they refused to help us with the repair costs. 51,000 miles is to early to have these types of problems. I do like the interior design and feel when driving this vehicle. Due to the mechanical defects, I would not recommend anyone purchase this vehicle.

Excellent SUV it fits everywhere, it very fuel efficient, and the rear door opens up so you can really stuff the hell out of the back. love taking it out for long weekend gateways. I look forward to keeping the SUV for 8 years so I still a year and a half to go. So I think I will upgrade to the Enclave. Since I am really impressed with Buick.

  • A Very Classy and Stylish Buick SUV - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

Very nice SUV for Buicks first try in this market segment. Has nice looks and standsout from the crowd. Very pleasing interior with many nice touches. Fit and finish inside and out is good. Rides extreemly nice and is extreemly nimble for an AWD vehicle. Has great gas milage for its market segment. With a wife and two young daughters I needed the room and safty features this vehicle provides. Overall a classy alternative to a Minivan.

  • Sows EAR - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

My 3rd Buick and my Last. This could have been a great car if reliability had been there. Head gasket replaced at 55k and 175k, air conditioning condenser, power steering pump, 3 wheel bearings, 4th gear on transmission failed, rear ball joints replaced. All of these identified by service bulletins but cost me just more than $10,000 in repairs with no relief from GM except the first head gasket. Last jab is being left no residual value on resale. GM makes the mistakes and the customer pays. What a disappointment. GM should learn that reputation not just made on successes but how you handle the failures. In this case GM made the customer pay. Losing market share GM? Wonder why? You shouldnt!

  • A Good Riding RDV - 2002 Buick Rendezvous
    By -

This is a good performance SUV for first time buyer of SUVs. It has a good feel to it and can make women feel at ease about riding in a SUV. The entry into this SUV is low enough for women to climb in and out of it without feeling like we are climbing onto a horse. I just love my new Buick SUV.

  • Perfectly satisfied - 2002 Buick Rendezvous

For anyone looking for a good family vehicle, the RDV desreves serious consideration. The only criticisms Ive heard about the vehicle pertain to mileage or power. Well, it is a 3400# SUV, and Im pretty sure that if youre looking for power in a car that size, the MPG will stink, and vice versa. The power has been perfectly adequate (for LA hwys), and our overall MPG is around 22 after 3000 mi. In short, a very nice balance between power and econony. That said, the comfort, quiet, convenience and luxury cant be beaten in this price range. We paid less than $24k, and everyone in the family is thrilled with the convenience and creature comfort so far.
