For 2006, the BMW Z4 undergoes its first major update since its debut. Heading the list of updates and improvements is a new coupe body style. Its underlying mechanicals are pretty much the same as those on the convertible but its fixed roof provides extra body rigidity. More powerful engines are also new. The 2006 Z4 now has two variants of 3.0-liter engines available. In the base Z4 3.0i roadster, which replaces last year's Z4 2.5i model, there's a 215-horsepower version. In the 3.0si, a high-output, 255-hp engine is used. Both trim levels come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, and the optional automatic now has six gears instead of the previous five. BMW has also reprogrammed the automatic transmission for sportier gearshift responses and added steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. The Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) transmission is no longer available. Other 2006 enhancements include a retuned standard suspension for better ride quality, a higher final-drive ratio for improved acceleration, new wheels, additional braking functionality for the stability control system, updated front and rear styling and minor interior trim updates.

My Baby - 2006 BMW Z4
By Ed Womble - June 1 - 7:06 pmDriving this car is even more exhilarating that I imagined. The smooth powerful feeling of driving the Z4 reminds me of my earlier days with my old 280Z and 300ZX. I love the power top which is controllable from either the front panel, the door lock, or externally from the key via blue tooth. Shifting through the 6 forward gears is a dream. Beyond my expectations, my golf clubs do fit in the trunk, although I have to carefully arrange them. The run flat tires have already bailed me out of a tight situation -- thanks BMW, great idea.

Amazing car - 2006 BMW Z4

Whether in heavy traffic or the open road the car is a treat to drive. The convertible top opens so easily and in less than 10 seconds. The Z4 accelerates with a flourish and truly "hugs the road". What a dream!

I drove the 350Z, Z4 3.0, Miata MX-5, and the s2000 when I was looking for a roadster and none of them could compete with the 3.0si. A well thought out car with a great thrill factor. As much fun as a motorcycle with much more protection. The drivetrain is perfect from all aspects. Kudos to the Germans.

By sa - March 14 - 7:50 amI cant believe this car! I havent had this much fun driving since I was 16. Its beautiful, turns corners like its on rails, and you can definitely getty-up and go with this engine. Invest in the 3.0si - you wont regret it.
