545i is pretty darn nice - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Momo - August 14 - 10:00 amI purchased a 545i today after driving a 530i Sport package demo. This car is pretty awesome. The 6 speed auto transmission was surprisingly smooth and did a nice job of kicking into lower gears coming out of the apex of my turns. Anyone who thinks the new i- Drive is difficult simply lacks any degree of common sense. I found the system easy to navigate. And BMW did a nice job of adding a menu button to get back to the main screen if you shold get lost and functional knobs for the temp control and raido volume, which pretty much eliminates the necessity to use the i-Drive when you are driving.

bmw545 is a fantastic car - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By hotbasketball - August 8 - 2:00 amfantastic power, fantastic handling, corners like a dream,,very good pickup, I recommend the upgraded seats,,very comfortable with side electronic bolsters, and articulating upper half of back seat,,,cup holders are poorly positioned as usual, and the moon roof makes alot of wind noise due to the poorly designed wind dam that has teeth that howel,,im getting the new M5 in 05

Pretty close to perfect - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By panderse - August 8 - 2:00 amThis is just an awesome vehicle. I drove other japanese cars claiming to be in the same class, and while they had impressive specs, none could come close to the driving experience of the 5. Plenty of power, flawless transmission with sport and manual modes, and impecible handling. I found immediately that i need to work on my driving skills because this car does exactly what you tell it to. I know people are complaining about iDrive, but I find it pretty easy to use. Althought i work with computers all day.

One down, two to go - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By totalsystm - August 2 - 2:03 am545i 6-speed. Just an OK rating for a $60K+ car is sad. After a year, still not sold! Started off wrong. Ordered from the factory with, I thought, every option. Nope! At delivery and later through surprises, found out that if BMW builds it with the Navigation System (which frequently attempts to route us through Frankfurt) and the HUD (Heads up display which is great-unless you have polarized glasses, then it becomes invisible), you can not get satellite radio or simply see the names of songs or radio stations (Yes, this is with the high end Sound system option.) No MP3! BMW response, "Sorry". Custom power seats with lumbar support pretty good, but not at all good looking.

I GOT THE RIGHT ONE, BABY!!! - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Bimmamma - July 18 - 8:40 amIve had this car for a little while now and I really like the quickness of it (mind you, I said quickness, not fastness). The handling is unbeatable!!! Doesnt seem to hug the curves like my 92 525i does but it still knows its a Bimmer and it comes in at a close second!!!!

Instrumentation Disaster - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By sparcusa - June 23 - 10:38 pmThis iDrive thing is an abomination. My minivan radio has more capabilities. The iDrive has a nice color screen, looks cool but essentially does nothing. Really! Shockingly disfunctional and distracts from the overall driving experience. It constantly displays a warning that essentially says "DONT LOOK AT THIS WHILE YOUR DRIVING". If I cant upgrade this thing, I think Im going to trade it in. really, really disappointed.

Lemon - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By A.Ortiz - June 20 - 4:19 amThe look of the car is attractive. The looks are not worth the troubles and headaches of the vehicle. It has too many electrical problems. The windows roll down automatically while the ignition is turned off. The car also beeps like its going to flat line when the car is in motion. The dealers do not know how to fix these problems. They reset the computer for the beeping sound and put a new motor in the doors for the windows and the same problems still occur. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer for service and repairs 7 times and I just scheduled an appointment for an 8th time in 2 weeks.

the 5 series beauty - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By Bryan Johns - June 20 - 2:00 amLove the design, both inside and out. Ordered the car in Oct., came in with different seats (less comfortable) than the car in the showroom....wish it had the GPS, not available for a while. Corners like a Porsche...awesome! Cruises fast and firm, and has a really tight turning radius. The most beautiful sedan on the road.

GREEN MACHINE - 2004 BMW 5-Series
By EASYED - June 12 - 3:23 pmThe sports package tires and rims do not meet the rough roads (potholes,etc.). Expect out of pocket costs (new tires/new rims )potentially after 25,000 miles. Out of pocket costs could near $3,000. Also, three recalls to date, which are not what I expected in a $60k vehicle. Cupholders are terrible!!!
