This Year's Model Updates:

The 5 Series has been completely redesigned for 2004. Along with a new V8 and the iDrive vehicle management system, buyers can expect even greater handling from this premier midsize sedan than before.

Pros:
  • Available V8 power, handles more like a sports car than a sedan, luxurious yet sporty cabin.
Cons:

You must drive this car to appreciate the blend of sporty performance and luxury. The full size appearance belies actual performance characteristics. The handling and performance are nothing short of awesome. iDrive takes a little time to master, but you soon realize that you have ultimate control over systems and have access to information that in any other car, youd have to rely on the dealer service department for. The ability to create custom settings for the steeing wheel control buttons is a great feature. And Bangle bashing aside - The styling is both sporty and elegant, and unlike anything in its class.

  • My BMW 530i - 2004 BMW 5-Series

My 2004 BMW 530i has fulfilled all my expectations. It is quiet, smooth, powerful, good looking, easy to handle and fun to drive. The I-Drive is sometimes a pain and at times one yearns for the simpler, digitial dash controls, especially for climate--the radio and CD controls may acutally be better on the I-Drive. I had a defective airbag warning light (most apparently did) but BMW promptly replaced the defective computer causing it.

  • Love this BMW!!! - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Only had this for two months, but I love it! Car is very comfortable, and fun to drive. iDrive system is OK, but dont like the need to "accept" BMWs disclosure every time you start the car ("dont mess with this while you drive"). Also, for radio use, you cant simply push a button to get to a station, you have to scroll through every preset. Poor storage space. For a 2004 luxury sedan, it baffles me why BMW still has a place between the front seats for an installed cell phone. What little space is available is mostly taken up by that holder. Even with very limited drawbacks, this car is amazing.

  • Just got 2004 525i - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Just got a 2004 525i automatic with cold weather package, xenon lights (which are way nice!), leather and premium package...very nice car!! I had been researching extensively new BMWs, Mercedes, and the like for the last 5 months. BMW is a very solid car. You feel very much in control. Even though I have only had it a week, it so far has proven excellent to my high standards (I plan on updating this entry in 6-8 months to see if all is still well). I was also torn between the 530 and 525, there really is not much difference in the engine perfomance considering an extra $5,000 for 39 more horsepower.

Great ride with so much power. Combines luxury with understated agressiveness. Spacious, comfortable, cool gadgets. Looking forward to the Bluetooth option.

The new styling brought me into the dealer. The lines are beautiful from all angles - even better in person than in pics. Then I drove it, eventually home (3.0/SP/PP/Xenon/Titanium Gray Metallic). This car maintains the perfect balance between luxury and performance. The 3.0 is silky smooth and acceleration is much better than I expected. It took all of 2 weeks to get used to I-Drive - not a big deal and many more menu choices than I thought. Set most of them once and forget them. Radio and HVAC can still be controlled with buttons on the dash. The dealer was great to deal with as well (look into BMW leasing!). But the cupholders.....

  • Compliments Abound when you hit the road - 2004 BMW 5-Series

Had this beauty for just about 3 weeks and not a day passes without a compliment about its great new look. The new 5 Series is striking and has on two occassions been initially mistaken for a 7 Series. Rides great and handles like a luxary sports car or sedan.

My first BMW, I find very few negative things to say. I am very happy with my choice.

  • Bottom line: 2004 530ia bimmer - 2004 BMW 5-Series
    By -

Bottom line: 5 series bimmers still provide "The Ultimate Driving Experience" hands down! In my search for a new car over the past 6 months, I have reviewed and test driven over 10 different makes of 2004 vehicles including BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, & Infiniti. The BMW 5 series is, to me, the VERY BEST in every category.
