This Year's Model Updates:

The TL Type-S makes its debut this year, sporting a 260-horsepower engine, sport-tuned suspension, Vehicle Stability Assist and 17-inch tires. 2002 also sees some styling revisions to the TL's front end and taillights. An in-dash six-CD changer, one-touch-up driver's window and two-position memory system for driver seat and mirrors are newly standard on both the 3.2 TL and the Type-S, and Acura has added insulation materials to the doors and reshaped the side mirrors to cut down on wind and road noise inside the cabin. Anthracite Metallic, Aegean Blue Pearl and Eternal Blue Pearl are the new exterior colors.

Pros:
  • Excellent value, comfortable front seats, impressive power from Type-S engine, SportShift transmission is fun to use.
Cons:
  • Average interior materials, cramped rear seat room, lacks the panache of some competing luxury sedans.

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2002 Acura TL

This car is just pure fun. Looks, power, safety, everything. Each time I look at it I smile, whenever I drive it, its pure joy. The extra $2,000 for the S model is clearly worth it, in that it turns this great car from a mere low end luxury model to a powerful beast with attitude.

  • Another Transmission Failure - 2002 Acura TL

I thought I bought a car that had great value for the dollar, but all of you folks whining about a particular street not being on the Nav system need to get over it...just wait til your transmission fails! You wont need to worry about where your going, but about how you are going to get there! This is not what I expected for such a highly rated vehicle and the build quality we have come to expect from Honda. And if you think this is a fluke, go to http://www.acura-tl.com and http://www.acura-cl.com and find out how many other Acura owners have experienced transmission failures...thats right...FAILURE, meaning needing to be replaced!

  • Great after almost 2 years - 2002 Acura TL

Upgraded from Infiniti G20 after 125000 miles. First Acura, although I have had 2 other Hondas, a Mazda, a Toyota and a Porsche. This car is fun to drive. No problems other than the warranty recall for the windshield fluid tubes clouding up the windshield. Dealer fixed it right first time. Very easy on the back and good in cold weather here in Colorado.

  • Needs better rubber - 2002 Acura TL
    By -

Edmunds reviews list a 0-60 6.6s.To get this out of the engine VSA needs to be turned off, so the tires spin.Normal people dont drive like that.Unless you are a person who likes to here the sound of rubber being laid down on pavement and the VSA warning flashing, 6.6 may not be right. My first experience was on a freshly paved road with VSA on, making me loose to an A4 CVT with FrontTrakk (6.9s).The next time I turned VSA off, let the tires spin, and got great acceleartion.

  • 2002 TL-S in Georgia - 2002 Acura TL

I purchased the car in December 2002. As of March 13, 2003 is has 12400 miles. The car is quick and quiet. Comfort on long trips is very good. The CD changer is nice on long and short trips. The exterior should be made to look more sporty. I think the BMW 3-Series looks better. Gas mileage has been around 22 MPG average for the first year.

  • Value Buy - 2002 Acura TL

For the money, this car will match any feature for feature. The 260HP delivers on low-end and mid-range acceleration. The car corners flat and the breaking system is excellent. If I had known about an available 6 speed in 2003 I would have waited.

  • Xenon head lights of TL-S - 2002 Acura TL

Just have a 2002 TL-S. Its Great Car, High Performance. And heard that cars very bright Xenon headlights are expensive ($1600) and hot item for the thefts. So be carefully where you park your baby.

  • Love my Ac-Rite - 2002 Acura TL
    By -

This Acura TL is what put Acuras ability to make luxurious sporty mid sized sedans on the front burner of every car review outlet. I mean, the 3.2 VTEC V6 that comes standard is LITERALLY bullet proof. Check the internet for em, wait..dont. Because no one needs em. Why? This thing was mechanical engineering genius. The car is stupid smooth and quiet on the inside. Helluva travel car. Have taken it all across the west coast and for good reason. The technology is what one would expect for an 02, but man does she shine when you ride. I get compliments almost everyday for how it drives and purs...and she is up to the 174k MILE MARK! On stock engine, STOCK TRANSMISSION, and up till a few thousand miles ago stock radiator. This car is my first car that my parents gave me and even though she takes a beating, I cant trade her in. Why? Because it can take turns at 40+ like Miata, accelerates with the current muscle cars (seriously), and rolls past Lexus owners and laugh. The stock sound system is BOSE and straight bumps, as a teenager this is huge! I love my Ac-Rite. People dont understand; treat any car with regular oil changes, fluid flushes (INCLUDING TRANNY FLUID), and constant monitoring...anything will take you far. But we bought this with about 30k on the dash, and at first we didnt care for it. But once I got it, I drove it constantly in manual (speed stick, speed slot), keep it below 6k revs, and gave SYNTHETIC oil changes every 4,000 or so and itll run. Why? Because ACURAs are Hondas and they are built fantastically.

Nighthawk Black, beautiful, still breaking it in. Loving every minute behind the wheel. Had to buy a radar detector because I catch myself speeding so often in this car.
