This Year's Model Updates:

The RL is completely redesigned for 2005, and now sports a 300-horsepower V6 and standard all-wheel drive.

Pros:
  • Quiet cabin, handles well for a large sedan, excellent build and materials quality, unique all-wheel-drive system, innovative navigation system offers real-time traffic information.
Cons:
  • Lacks the low-end grunt of a V8, still lacks the prestige of its European competition.

  • Options of a Benz at half the price! - 2005 Acura RL

Overall this car is an excellent upgrade to the old dog RL. The all wheel drive is spectacular! We just got a foot of snow in NE PA and this car went through drifts like an SUV. The stability control makes winter driving less worrisome! The 300 hp is not the aggressive hp you will find in sports cars, however, it will acceletare you off the stop light well ahead if its competitors. At highway speeds, the 300 hp is at its best. Just push the throttle and you are doing 90 MPH before you know it. The interior has all of the technological equipment needed to keep you ammused. The nav system and audio controls are very easy to use and feel natural.

This is an autombile that is a joy to drive and the comfort is unsurpassed. I will say that the RL experience from the day I purchased until today has truly been an enjoyable experience.

  • Great Car At A Great Price - 2005 Acura RL

I moved from an 02 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro w/ sport package into an Acura RL. All I can say is that I love this car. Its loaded with just about every option you would expect from a luxury car. It handles great considering the size of this car and sharp turns arent dramatic and feels well planted. The ride quality is great although some might consider it a bit harsh, as for me, its a huge improvement compared to the A4. Coming from an Audi, Im used to expecting good material and build quality and this car doesnt disappoint. Just drive the cars you are considering and see which you like better. Theres not much to complain about the RL, its a fine automobile and you can bargain on price.

Comfort on the road is outstanding. Visuals as far as instrument panel are perfect. Room in back seat is outstanding. Also love the gps and the voice activation system. Also the best sound system ive heard, better than my 430 mzb.

  • Great car... but - 2005 Acura RL

Leg room drivers side needs improvement. Large foot block left side prevents extending left leg unless you are less than 5 feet tall. Mileage not good in city driving. Highway mileage is good. Needs more insulation. Hard to carry conversation with back seat riders due to road noise.

  • Electronics are a problem - 2005 Acura RL

Drives great, but watch out for too many gadgets. Battery drain is a common problem, especially since awkward 2nd key position issue leads to frequent battery drains. Make sure you carry a jump box, Ive owned the car for about 1.5 years and have had to jump it 20+ times.

The quality and overall technology put into this vehicle is outstanding. The voice recognition features and use of technology is the best Ive seen in any vehicle. Ive owned BMWs, an Audi A6 (Quattro) and Mercedes. I and have test driven Infinitis M35. Based upon my experience the Acura is the most user friendly vehicle Ive encountered. While it is quick, the Acura could use more low end torque to get it off the line quicker and a little more responsive, such as Infiniti has done with the M35.

  • RL the new "Legend" - 2005 Acura RL

Ive been waiting for this car. I traded in my 94 Legend and couldnt be happier. My only wish is that they rename it and bring back the "Legend" name. Ive always liked the "no add ons" "all included" aspects of the RL. It drives great with more power than I need. Im still learning all the new high tech aspects and it is a challenge to not be distracted by the technology (messages, voice commands, etc) while driving. Since there arent a lot of new RLs on the road yet I get quite a lot of attention and questions from interested people. All are impressed with its looks. I also drive an X5. The X5 is great for a weekly commute I do (523 miles) because its higher and I feel safer in it.

An excellent four-wheel drive medium-sized luxury vehicle that will give BMW and Mercedes a run for their money.

  • My First Luxury Performance Car - 2005 Acura RL

Driving the new RL almost from the moment of the first test drive for me was the culmination of an expectation that I have looked forward to over 20 plus years of Honda ownership. The 2005 RL represents the ultimate luxury performance car for me. I am satisfied. In some way it was like reaching a goal. (Now maybe my new goal will be moving beyond anything automotive related)
